Mr. Doug Randall
Doug Randall is a partner in the Monitor Group, GBN’s parent company.
A specialist in managing uncertainty, strategic planning, and decision-making, Doug works with government organizations, corporations,
nonprofits, universities, and research organizations to address complex geopolitical, business, and environmental challenges.
Doug leads a team that helps intelligence and security organizations apply best practices from industry to their challenges.
They focus on open-source analysis, network outreach, and methodology development. Recent projects include scenario
planning exercises on the future of China, Russia, and Latin America; the development of methodologies for detecting “emergent
phenomena”; and developing executive learning programs on scenario thinking, the use of narrative, and asking strategic
analytical questions.
With 15 years of consulting
experience, Doug has published numerous articles, book chapters, and white papers on scenario planning, decision-making, the
environment, the internet, and electronic commerce. He has lectured at the Wharton School of Business, Stanford University,
and Berkeley's Haas School of Business, and has appeared in interviews on the BBC and in several magazines and journals.
He is the coauthor, with Peter Schwartz, of a report for the Pentagon on the potential impact of abrupt climate change, subtitled
“Imagining the Unthinkable,” and a cover story for Wired magazine titled “How Hydrogen Fuel Can
Save America.”
Doug received his B.A., cum
laude, from the University of Pennsylvania and his MBA from the Wharton School. He practices Ashtanga yoga and meditates
daily. He is on the board of directors of the Center for Contemplative Mind in Society.
