National Security Leadership: Are We Prepared For the Complex Challenges of the 21st Century?

Wednesday, October 15, 2008
Ritz-Carlton® Pentagon City

Attendees at this inaugural symposia will first seek to achieve some consensus about the salient characteristics that will define the 21st century strategic environment.  Given these characteristics, attendees will then discuss and debate the kind of strategic leadership needed in national security matters in order to meet the multitude of global challenges that the United States is likely to confront.  Attendees will also seek to establish some first principles to help guide the education and development of our strategic leaders.

One long term goal of this and future symposiums is to expand communications in order to build sustainable relationships between various stakeholders; military, civilian, and the public and private sectors. Together, such enduring relationships can make a difference in leadership development for national security matters.

Never has the education and development of national security leaders, both military and civilian, been more acute.  They must continue to recognize and challenge some currently held beliefs and weigh lessons learned from a multitude of perspectives.
